Hot Water Gingerbread.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup molasses
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • 2¼ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1½ teaspoons ginger
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

Method

  1. Add water to molasses.
  2. Mix and sift dry ingredients, combine mixtures, add butter, and beat vigorously.
  3. Pour into a buttered shallow pan, and bake twenty-five minutes in a moderate oven.
  4. Chicken fat tried out and clarified furnishes an excellent shortening, and may be used in place of butter.
